The most important things to know before you call — especially if you have a 1st gen HR-V LX, the most commonly misquoted Honda in the aftermarket glass industry.

| LaneWatch Camera | Not available on LX | Passenger-side mirror (not windshield-related — no calibration impact) |
| Acoustic Glass | Standard laminated windshield | Acoustic laminated — replacement must match spec |
| Rain-Sensing Wipers | Not available | Available on EX-L — sensor patch visible on glass interior |

| Installation Time | 60–90 min · Drive-away 60 min | 2.5–4 hours with calibration |
| Glass Recommendation | Quality aftermarket (Pilkington or Fuyao) — OEM not required | OEE quality or better — acoustic spec match required on EX-L |
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Honda Sensing® / ADAS | Standard on ALL trims — Sport, EX, EX-L all require calibration |
| Calibration Required? | Yes — every 2nd gen HR-V windshield replacement requires static calibration |
| Calibration Type | Static — vehicle stationary, manufacturer-spec targets. Approximately 1–2 hours |
| Honda Sensing® Features | Collision Mitigation Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning |
| LaneWatch | Discontinued on 2nd gen — replaced by standard Honda Sensing® |
| Windshield Size | Larger than 1st gen — different part number, do not cross-reference to 2016–2022 |
| Acoustic Glass | Available on EX and EX-L — verify before ordering to preserve cabin noise levels |
| Rain-Sensing Wipers | Available on EX-L — sensor strip on glass interior |
| Body Styles | 5-door only — no 3-door option in US market |
| Typical Cost | $560 – $1,150 total including Honda Sensing® calibration |
| Installation Time | 2.5–4 hours with calibration · Drive-away 60 min after glass cure |
| Glass Recommendation | OEE quality (Pilkington or Fuyao preferred) — critical for reliable ADAS calibration |
Every cost component broken out. No surprise charges — and no charging LX owners for calibration they don't need.
For ADAS-equipped HR-Vs where the total reaches $560–$1,150, your comprehensive coverage almost certainly covers the full job — glass and calibration — with little or no out-of-pocket cost. We handle claims directly with GEICO, State Farm, Progressive, Allstate, Farmers, and USAA. LX owners without ADAS can also use insurance for the glass-only replacement.

|---|---|---|---|
| Pilkington | Our First Choice | Yes | OEM supplier for Honda; consistent acoustic interlayer spec; preferred on all ADAS-equipped HR-Vs and for EX-L acoustic matching |
| Fuyao / FYG (Ohio plant) | Our First Choice | Yes | OEM-grade quality; tight thickness tolerances important for Honda Sensing® calibration success; proven track record on HR-V |
| Vitro / PGW | Approved | Yes | Solid reliability; used when Pilkington/Fuyao are back-ordered; always OEE-grade on ADAS-equipped HR-Vs |
| XYG / Benson | Rare / Last Resort | Non-ADAS only | Not our preference. If used at all, only on 1st gen LX trim (no ADAS). Never used on any ADAS-equipped HR-V. Always disclosed upfront. |
Honda Sensing® affects which HR-V trims need calibration and which don't. Here's the full breakdown of what the system does and how we handle it.
| Honda Sensing® Feature | Uses Windshield Camera? | Affected by Replacement? |
|---|---|---|
| Collision Mitigation Braking (CMBS) | Yes | Camera angle may shift |
| Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS) | Yes | Camera angle may shift |
| Lane Departure Warning (LDW) | Yes | Camera angle may shift |
| Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) | Yes | Camera angle may shift |
| Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) | Radar + camera | Camera angle may shift |
| LaneWatch (1st gen EX only) | Side-mirror mounted | Not Affected — not a windshield system |
| Rain-Sensing Wipers (EX-L) | Windshield sensor patch | Not Affected — no recalibration needed |
The most important thing we do for HR-V owners is confirm the trim before quoting. The 1st gen LX is a glass-only job — no calibration, period. Any shop quoting calibration on an LX without checking the VIN is either not paying attention or not being straight with you.
For EX and above (1st gen) and all 2nd gen HR-Vs, Honda's service documentation calls for static calibration after windshield removal. That's the official position, and we follow it. We perform static calibration on-site using manufacturer-grade targets — no dealership required.
Our recommendation: If you're using insurance, calibrate — the cost is covered and there's no reason to skip it. If you're paying out of pocket on an ADAS HR-V and your Sensing was working perfectly before, we'll walk you through the options honestly. If warning lights appear after the job, we'll calibrate at cost.
📋 Using Insurance? Start Your Claim →Full replacement is almost always the better call. Here's when repair is technically possible — and why we lean toward replacement even then.
From $200 (LX) · Same-day mobile available throughout LA
$95–$150 · We'll always tell you if replacement makes more sense
On any Honda HR-V with Honda Sensing® (EX/EX-L 1st gen or any 2nd gen), the forward camera reads through the windshield glass. Even a chip that appears far from the camera field can cause calibration issues after resin injection — resin changes the optical properties of the glass in that zone and can cause Honda Sensing® to fail calibration or throw intermittent warnings.
If the chip is within 8 inches of the top center of the glass (where the camera mounts), we will almost always recommend replacement over repair on an ADAS HR-V. Through insurance, a full replacement with calibration typically costs nothing. We'll give you an honest assessment either way.
LX owners: Chip repair is a reasonable option on the LX trim since there is no camera system to worry about. Same eligibility criteria apply — smaller than a quarter, not in the line of sight. We charge $95–$150 for chip repair.
Your VIN is the fastest way — it tells us your exact trim, whether you have Honda Sensing®, and precisely what glass your HR-V needs. No guessing on the LX vs. EX question.
The 17-character VIN on your dashboard (driver's side, visible through the windshield) or door jamb decodes your exact trim and ADAS equipment. For the HR-V especially — where the LX vs. EX difference is worth $300–$500 in calibration cost — your VIN is the single most important piece of information. One call, one number, done.
