Ram's Active Safety Group is the camera-based driver-assist suite used on 5th Gen Ram trucks. When the windshield is replaced, the forward-facing camera may shift — calibration ensures every safety feature works correctly.

What Ram Active Safety Group Does
The Active Safety Group uses a windshield-mounted camera behind the rearview mirror. It powers Forward Collision Warning Plus with Active Braking, LaneSense Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go. Blind Spot Monitoring uses radar in the rear quarter panels — not affected by windshield replacement.

What Happens When We Replace the Glass
The camera bracket is removed with the old windshield and re-mounted to the new one. Even a fraction of a degree of shift in camera angle throws off the system's reference points. Calibration re-establishes those points using manufacturer-spec targets — our method is static only, the most precise approach available.

Ram-Specific Camera Considerations
Ram's Active Safety Group camera is particularly sensitive to optical distortion in the windshield glass. The Ram 1500 Classic (DS body) and 5th Gen DT body use completely different windshields — shops must distinguish between Classic and DT to order the correct glass. Using generic glass on ADAS-equipped Rams has a higher-than-average risk of calibration failure.
