Toyota Camry Windshield Replacement — Common Questions Answered

The most important things to know before you call, regardless of your Camry's year or trim.

How much does it cost?
$230–$440 for 2007–2017 Camrys without ADAS. $600–$1,300 for 2018–2025 models with Toyota Safety Sense™, including mandatory calibration.
Does my Camry need ADAS calibration?
Yes, if your Camry is 2018 or newer. Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS-P or TSS 2.0) is standard on all 9th gen (2018–2024) and 10th gen (2025+) trims. Pre-2018 Camrys have no forward camera.
Why does glass quality matter more on the Camry?
The 9th gen Camry TSS camera bracket is unusually sensitive to glass optical quality. Generic aftermarket glass has a measurably higher calibration failure rate on the Camry than on most other Toyotas. We always use OEE-grade glass on any TSS Camry.
Does my Camry Hybrid need different glass?
No — the Camry Hybrid uses the same windshield as the standard Camry. Drivetrain doesn't affect the glass part number. We confirm by VIN.
Does the XSE V6 with HUD need special glass?
Yes. The Heads-Up Display on the XSE V6 (pre-2023) requires HUD-compatible glass with a specific optical coating. Standard glass causes a ghosted double image. We always verify before ordering.
Will insurance cover it?
Yes — comprehensive coverage covers glass and calibration. We handle the full claim. Most 2018+ Camry owners with comprehensive coverage pay nothing out of pocket.
How long does it take?
60–90 min glass-only. 2.5–4 hours with ADAS calibration. Drive-away safe in 60 min with fast-cure urethane adhesive.
Can you come to my home or office?
Yes — free mobile service throughout Los Angeles. No driving a cracked windshield across town.

⚠️
9th Gen (2018–2024): Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P) standard on ALL trims at launch. TSS 2.0 added mid-cycle with enhanced features. The camera bracket on this generation is notoriously sensitive to glass optical quality — generic glass has a higher-than-average calibration failure rate on the Camry. Acoustic glass standard on all trims. HUD available on XSE V6 (pre-2023). Hybrid uses the same glass.

⚠️
9th gen Camry known issue — camera bracket optical sensitivity: The 9th gen Camry TSS camera bracket is highly sensitive to glass optical quality. Generic aftermarket glass has a measurably higher calibration failure rate on the Camry than on most other Toyotas. Minor optical distortions that pass calibration on a RAV4 or Corolla will fail on a Camry. We always use OEE-grade glass (Pilkington, AGC, or Fuyao Ohio) on any TSS-equipped Camry — no exceptions.
⚠️
10th Gen (2025+): Complete redesign with Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0 standard on all trims. New glass profile — different part number from the 9th gen. Every windshield replacement requires calibration. TSS 3.0 includes enhanced pre-collision, lane tracing, and proactive driving assist features.

Glass Options Explained

Toyota Camry Windshield Glass — OEM, OEE & Aftermarket

The right glass depends on your year and trim. Especially critical on the 9th gen Camry due to its camera bracket sensitivity.

⚠️
Camry-specific warning: The 9th gen Camry (2018–2024) TSS camera bracket is highly sensitive to glass optical quality. Generic aftermarket glass has a measurably higher calibration failure rate on the Camry than on most other Toyotas. We always use OEE-grade glass (Pilkington, AGC, or Fuyao Ohio) on any TSS-equipped Camry. This is not optional — it is how we avoid costly re-work and ensure your safety systems calibrate correctly the first time.

Our Honest Take on Camry Calibration

Toyota's manufacturer documentation requires calibration any time the windshield is removed on a TSS-equipped Camry. That's the official position — and we always make customers aware of it.

In practice, we do perform non-calibrated replacements. In the vast majority of cases the system continues to function normally — the camera re-mounts to the same bracket in the same position. We've seen this consistently across hundreds of Camry jobs.

Our recommendation: If you're using insurance, calibrate — the cost is covered and there's no reason not to. If you're paying out of pocket and your TSS was working perfectly before, a non-calibrated replacement is a reasonable choice. If warning lights appear after the job, bring it back and we'll calibrate at cost.

When we calibrate, we always provide a printed completion report. If any warning lights return after our service, we redo the calibration at no charge — no questions asked.

Repair or Replace?

Toyota Camry Windshield Repair vs. Replacement — Which Do You Need?

Full replacement is almost always the better call. Here's when repair is technically possible — and why we lean toward replacement even then.

✓ Full Replacement — Always Our Recommendation

  • New glass, clean seal, zero compromise
  • Backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty
  • New moldings and clips included every time
  • Required for any crack over 6 inches
  • Required for damage in driver's line of sight
  • The only safe option for TSS Camrys (2018+)

From $230 · Same-day mobile available throughout LA

△ Repair — Technically Possible, But...

  • Chip must be smaller than a quarter
  • Not in driver's direct line of sight
  • Not within 3 inches of windshield edge
  • No spreading cracks, single impact only
  • No warranty — resin can fail or crack can return
  • Not recommended on any TSS Camry (2018+)

$95–$150 · We'll always tell you if replacement makes more sense

Why Chip Repair Is Riskier on the 2018+ Camry

On a 2018+ Camry with Toyota Safety Sense™, the forward camera reads through the windshield glass. Even a chip that appears far from the camera field of view can cause calibration issues after resin injection — resin changes the optical properties of the glass in that zone, and TSS can fail calibration or generate intermittent warnings as a result.

If the chip is within 8 inches of the camera mount area (top center of the glass), we will almost always recommend replacement over repair on a TSS Camry. The math is straightforward: a repair costs $95–$150 with no warranty. A full replacement with calibration through insurance typically costs nothing. We'll give you an honest assessment either way.

FAQ

Toyota Camry Windshield Replacement FAQ

Common questions from Toyota Camry owners across all years and trims.

How much does a Toyota Camry windshield replacement cost in Los Angeles?
Pre-2018 Camrys without ADAS: $230–$440 all-in. Any 2018 or newer Camry with Toyota Safety Sense™ runs $600–$1,300 including mandatory calibration. XSE V6 trims with HUD are at the higher end. Call (626) 689-7975 with your year and trim for an exact price in under a minute.
Does my Toyota Camry need ADAS calibration after windshield replacement?
Yes, if your Camry is 2018 or newer. Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS-P or TSS 2.0) is standard on all 9th gen (2018–2024) and 10th gen (2025+) Camry trims. Pre-2018 Camrys do not have a forward camera and never require windshield calibration.
Why does the 9th gen Camry have higher calibration failure rates with generic glass?
The 9th gen Camry TSS camera bracket is unusually sensitive to glass optical quality. Minor optical distortions that pass calibration on a RAV4 or Corolla will fail on a Camry. Generic aftermarket glass has a measurably higher calibration failure rate on this model. We always use OEE-grade glass — Pilkington, AGC (Toyota OEM supplier), or Fuyao Ohio — on any TSS-equipped Camry.
Does the Camry XSE V6 with Heads-Up Display need special glass?
Yes. The XSE V6 (pre-2023) HUD projects onto the windshield, requiring glass with a specific optical coating and wedge angle. Standard glass causes a ghosted double image. We always verify HUD compatibility before ordering glass for any XSE V6 Camry. Never let a shop install standard glass in a HUD-equipped Camry.
Does the Camry Hybrid need different glass than the standard Camry?
No. The Camry Hybrid shares the exact same windshield as the standard Camry for each model year. What determines your glass is your trim level and feature equipment — not the drivetrain. We confirm by VIN every time.
Can my Camry self-calibrate after windshield replacement?
No. Toyota Camrys with Toyota Safety Sense™ do not self-calibrate after windshield replacement. Any shop claiming otherwise is not following Toyota's service requirements. Static calibration with manufacturer-grade equipment is required every time the windshield is removed on a TSS-equipped Camry.
Will my insurance cover Toyota Camry windshield replacement in Los Angeles?
Yes — comprehensive auto insurance covers windshield replacement including ADAS calibration. For a 2018+ Camry where the total reaches $600–$1,300, most policyholders with comprehensive coverage owe little or nothing out of pocket. We handle the entire claim with GEICO, State Farm, Progressive, Allstate, Farmers, USAA, and all major carriers.
Can I drive with a cracked windshield in California?
A crack in the driver's primary line of sight is illegal and unsafe in California. Temperature swings in LA cause cracks to spread fast — a small chip can become a full replacement job within days on a 2018+ Camry. Call us for a same-day mobile assessment anywhere in Los Angeles.
