Toyota Safety Sense™ rollout on the Highlander was tied to model year. Here's exactly what it means for your windshield replacement.

|---|---|---|
| Pre-Collision System (PCS) | Yes | Camera angle may shift |
| Lane Departure Alert (LDA) | Yes | Camera angle may shift |
| Lane Tracing Assist (5th gen) | Yes | Camera angle may shift |
| Dynamic Radar Cruise Control | Radar + camera | Camera angle may shift |
| Road Sign Assist (5th gen) | Yes | Camera angle may shift |
| Automatic High Beams | Yes | Camera angle may shift |

Toyota's documentation requires calibration any time the windshield is removed on a TSS-equipped Highlander. That's the official position and we always inform customers of it clearly.
In practice, many non-calibrated replacements result in a system that continues to function. The camera re-mounts to the same bracket in the same position. That said, small variations in glass thickness or mount alignment can affect the camera's field of view, and TSS 2.0 on the 5th gen is more sensitive than TSS-P on the 4th gen.
Our recommendation for Highlanders: If you have comprehensive insurance, always calibrate — cost is covered entirely. If paying out of pocket, we recommend calibration on any 2017+ Highlander. If warning lights appear after a non-calibrated job, bring it back and we'll calibrate at cost.
📋 Using Insurance? Start Your Claim →Here's how to decide — and why replacement is usually the right call on a modern Highlander.
From $250 · Same-day mobile available throughout LA
$95–$150 · We'll always tell you if replacement makes more sense
A chip repair on a Highlander buys you time — but if that chip is anywhere near the camera zone at the top center of the windshield, resin fill can cause intermittent TSS warnings or calibration failure. On a 2020+ Highlander with TSS 2.0, the camera is more sensitive to optical distortion than on older models.
The math favors replacement: A chip repair runs $95–$150 with no warranty. A full replacement with calibration through insurance typically costs you nothing. We'll give you an honest assessment — if a repair is genuinely safe, we'll say so. If it's not, we'll tell you why.
Your VIN is critical on the Highlander — it's the only way to confirm TSS equipment by model year, HUD spec on Platinum, and exact glass part number.
The 17-character VIN on your dashboard (driver's side, visible through the windshield) or door jamb tells us everything — glass spec, TSS equipment, HUD availability on Platinum, and acoustic glass requirement. One number, one call, done.
