Toyota Sequoia Windshield Replacement — Common Questions Answered

The most important things to know before you call, regardless of your Sequoia's year or trim.

How much does it cost?
$300–$540 for 2008–2022 Sequoias without ADAS. $750–$1,500 for 2023–2025 models with Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0, including mandatory calibration. The 3rd gen Sequoia is the most expensive Toyota SUV windshield replacement.
Does my Sequoia need ADAS calibration?
Only if your Sequoia is 2023 or newer. Every 3rd gen Sequoia (2023–2025) has TSS 3.0 standard on all trims. The 2nd gen (2008–2022) — including the 2022 model — has zero ADAS and never requires calibration.
Does the 2022 Sequoia have Toyota Safety Sense?
No — this is the #1 misconception on the Sequoia. The 2022 model is the final year of the 15-year-old 2nd gen platform. TSS was never added. The 2023 was a complete redesign with TSS 3.0 standard.
Does the Capstone or Platinum with HUD need special glass?
Yes. The 3rd gen Sequoia Capstone and Platinum trims with Heads-Up Display require glass with a specific optical coating and wedge angle. Standard glass causes a ghosted double-image. We always verify HUD by VIN.
Is the Sequoia all hybrid now?
Yes — the 3rd gen Sequoia (2023+) is exclusively i-FORCE MAX hybrid. There is no gas-only option. The drivetrain does not affect the glass part number. What matters is trim and HUD. We confirm by VIN.
Will insurance cover it?
Yes — comprehensive coverage covers glass and calibration. We handle the full claim. Given the 3rd gen Sequoia's high replacement cost ($750–$1,500), insurance is strongly recommended.
How long does it take?
60–90 min glass-only (2008–2022). 2.5–4 hours with ADAS calibration (2023+). Drive-away safe in 60 min with fast-cure urethane adhesive.
Can you come to my home or office?
Yes — free mobile service throughout Los Angeles. No driving a cracked windshield across town.

Toyota Sequoia Windshield by Generation — What Your Year Needs

Your model year determines everything — glass type, whether calibration is required, HUD compatibility, and your total cost. Like the Tundra, the Sequoia jumped from zero ADAS to full TSS 3.0 in a single year (2022→2023), making year identification critical.

🚨
Critical Year Warning — 2022 vs. 2023 Sequoia: The Sequoia went from ZERO ADAS to full Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0 in a single model year jump. A 2022 Sequoia has no forward camera, no TSS, and no calibration requirement whatsoever — it is the final year of a 15-year-old platform. A 2023 Sequoia is a complete ground-up redesign with TSS 3.0 standard on every single trim, potentially HUD glass, and costs $750–$1,500 to replace. Shops that assume "all modern SUVs have ADAS" will overcharge 2022 owners for calibration they don't need. Conversely, any shop that skips calibration on a 2023+ Sequoia is leaving safety systems uncalibrated. The year matters enormously on the Sequoia.
2008–2022 · 2nd Gen
2023–2025 · 3rd Gen
ℹ️
2nd Gen (2008–2022): This generation ran for 15 years without a major redesign — like the Tundra, it NEVER received Toyota Safety Sense. Not even the final 2022 models. No forward camera, no ADAS, no calibration needed — ever. Body-on-frame full-size SUV with the largest Toyota SUV windshield of its era. Standard laminated glass on all trims. One of the most straightforward full-size SUV replacements we do.
FeatureDetails
Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS)Not Available — No TSS on any 2nd gen Sequoia, including the 2022 model year
ADAS Calibration Required? No — No forward camera exists on this generation
Glass TypeStandard laminated windshield — largest Toyota SUV windshield of its era
TrimsSR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Sport, TRD Pro — all use the same windshield
Acoustic GlassNot available on 2nd gen Sequoia — all trims use standard laminated
Rain-Sensing WipersNot available on this generation
Heads-Up Display (HUD)Not available on this generation
Typical Cost$300 – $540 total (glass + labor + moldings)
Installation Time60–90 minutes · Drive-away in 60 min
Our Glass RecommendationQuality aftermarket (Pilkington or Fuyao) — OEM not required, excellent results with OEE glass
⚠️
15 years, zero changes: The 2nd gen Sequoia ran from 2008 through 2022 with essentially the same windshield design. This makes parts availability excellent and pricing competitive. Don't let any shop charge you ADAS prices for a 2nd gen Sequoia — there is nothing to calibrate.
⚠️
3rd Gen (2023–2025): Complete ground-up redesign on the TNGA-F platform (shared with the 2022+ Tundra). Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0 is standard on every trim — SR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, Capstone. The i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain is standard (no gas-only option). This is the largest windshield in Toyota's current SUV lineup. HUD available on Capstone and Platinum trims. Static calibration is required after every windshield replacement. This is the most expensive Toyota windshield replacement due to glass size, TSS 3.0 complexity, and potential HUD glass.
FeatureDetails
Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS)TSS 3.0 Standard on ALL Trims — every 2023–2025 Sequoia has a camera-equipped windshield
Calibration Required?Yes — camera bracket mounts behind windshield and must be recalibrated after glass removal
Calibration TypeStatic — vehicle stationary, manufacturer-spec targets placed at precise distances. 1–2 hours
Safety Features AffectedPre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Road Sign Assist
Glass TypeLargest windshield in Toyota's current SUV lineup — acoustic laminated on all trims
Heads-Up Display (HUD)Available — Capstone & Platinum — requires special HUD-compatible glass with optical coating and wedge angle
All Trims — Same Base GlassSR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, Capstone — same windshield part (HUD trims require HUD-specific variant)
i-FORCE MAX HybridStandard on ALL 3rd gen Sequoias — no gas-only option exists. Drivetrain does not affect glass
Cost — With ADAS Calibration$750 – $1,500 total · Insurance strongly recommended at this price point
Installation Time60–90 min glass only · 2.5–4 hours with calibration
⚠️
HUD adds complexity and cost: If your 3rd gen Sequoia Capstone or Platinum has a Heads-Up Display, the windshield requires a specific optical coating and wedge angle that standard glass does not have. Installing non-HUD glass in a HUD-equipped Sequoia produces a ghosted double-image that cannot be corrected. We always verify HUD equipment by VIN before ordering — never by trim name alone, as some Platinum configurations omit HUD.
🔍
Quick check: Look for a small black camera housing near the top center of your windshield, behind the rearview mirror. If you see one, you have a 2023+ Sequoia with TSS 3.0 and calibration is required. If there's nothing there, you have a 2008–2022 model — glass only, no calibration. Share your VIN when you call and we'll confirm the exact part, glass spec, HUD requirement, and total price immediately.

Glass Options Explained

Toyota Sequoia Windshield Glass — OEM, OEE & Aftermarket

The right glass depends on your year and generation. Especially important on the oversized 3rd gen Sequoia windshield — the largest in Toyota's SUV lineup.

💡
Sequoia-specific note: The 3rd gen Sequoia (2023+) has the largest windshield in Toyota's current SUV lineup. Generic glass on a 2023+ ADAS Sequoia carries a higher risk of calibration failure due to inconsistent glass thickness near the camera mount area. HUD-equipped Capstone and Platinum trims require glass with specific optical properties — generic glass is never an option. On the 2nd gen (2008–2022), quality aftermarket glass works perfectly — no ADAS concerns at all.

ℹ️
2008–2022 Sequoia owners: None of the above applies to your SUV. The 2nd gen Sequoia has no forward camera, no ADAS features, and no calibration requirement. Your windshield replacement is glass-only — straightforward, fast, and significantly less expensive.

Our Honest Take on Sequoia Calibration

Toyota's manufacturer documentation requires calibration any time the windshield is removed on a TSS-equipped Sequoia (2023+). That's the official position — and we always make customers aware of it.

In practice, we do perform non-calibrated replacements when customers request it. In the vast majority of cases the system continues to function normally — the camera re-mounts to the same bracket in the same position. We've seen this consistently across many Sequoia and Tundra jobs on the TNGA-F platform.

Our recommendation: If you're using insurance, calibrate — the cost is covered and there's no reason not to. Given that the 3rd gen Sequoia is the most expensive Toyota SUV windshield to replace, insurance is the smart path. If you're paying out of pocket and your TSS was working perfectly before, a non-calibrated replacement is a reasonable choice. If warning lights appear after the job, bring it back and we'll calibrate at cost.

For 2008–2022 Sequoias: There is nothing to calibrate. If any shop tells you your 2022 or older Sequoia needs ADAS calibration, find a different shop.

Repair or Replace?

Toyota Sequoia Windshield Repair vs. Replacement — Which Do You Need?

Full replacement is almost always the better call on a full-size SUV. Here's when repair is technically possible — and why we lean toward replacement even then.

✓ Full Replacement — Always Our Recommendation

  • New glass, clean seal, zero compromise
  • Backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty
  • New moldings and clips included every time
  • Required for any crack over 6 inches
  • Required for damage in driver's line of sight
  • The only safe option for ADAS Sequoias (2023+)

From $300 · Same-day mobile available throughout LA

△ Repair — Technically Possible, But...

  • Chip must be smaller than a quarter
  • Not in driver's direct line of sight
  • Not within 3 inches of windshield edge
  • No spreading cracks, single impact only
  • No warranty — resin can fail or crack can return
  • Not recommended on any ADAS Sequoia (2023+)

$95–$150 · We'll always tell you if replacement makes more sense

Why Chip Repair Is Riskier on the 2023+ Sequoia

On a 2023+ Sequoia with Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0, the forward camera reads through the windshield glass. Even a chip that appears far from the camera field of view can cause calibration issues after resin injection — resin changes the optical properties of the glass in that zone, and TSS can fail calibration or generate intermittent warnings as a result.

If the chip is within 8 inches of the camera mount area (top center of the glass), we will almost always recommend replacement over repair on a 2023+ Sequoia. The math is straightforward: a repair costs $95–$150 with no warranty. A full replacement with calibration through insurance typically costs nothing. Given that the Sequoia's replacement cost is the highest in the Toyota SUV lineup, insurance makes this an easy decision.

FAQ

Toyota Sequoia Windshield Replacement FAQ

Common questions from Toyota Sequoia owners across all years and trims.

How much does a Toyota Sequoia windshield replacement cost in Los Angeles?
2nd gen Sequoias (2008–2022) without ADAS: $300–$540 all-in. Any 2023 or newer 3rd gen Sequoia with Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0 runs $750–$1,500 including mandatory calibration. The 3rd gen Sequoia is the most expensive windshield replacement in the Toyota SUV lineup. Call (626) 689-7975 with your year and trim for an exact price in under a minute.
Does my Toyota Sequoia need ADAS calibration after windshield replacement?
Only if your Sequoia is 2023 or newer. Every 3rd gen Sequoia (2023–2025) has Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0 standard on all trims and requires static calibration after windshield replacement. The 2nd gen Sequoia (2008–2022) has no forward camera and never requires calibration — including the 2022 model year.
Does the 2022 Toyota Sequoia have Toyota Safety Sense?
No. This is the most common misconception about the Sequoia. The 2022 model is the final year of the 2nd generation, which ran for 15 years (2008–2022) without a major redesign. Toyota Safety Sense was never added to any 2nd gen Sequoia. The 2023 model was a complete ground-up redesign on the TNGA-F platform with TSS 3.0 standard on every trim.
Does the Sequoia Capstone or Platinum with HUD need special glass?
Yes. The 3rd gen Sequoia Capstone and Platinum trims with a Heads-Up Display require glass with a specific optical coating and wedge angle. Installing standard glass in a HUD-equipped Sequoia produces a ghosted double-image that cannot be corrected without replacing the glass again. We always verify HUD equipment by VIN before ordering.
Is the 3rd gen Sequoia all hybrid?
Yes. The 3rd gen Sequoia (2023–2025) is exclusively i-FORCE MAX hybrid — there is no gas-only option. The drivetrain does not affect the windshield part number. What determines your glass is your trim and whether your vehicle has HUD, not the powertrain. We confirm everything by VIN.
Why is the 3rd gen Sequoia the most expensive Toyota SUV windshield?
Three factors combine: the Sequoia has the largest windshield in Toyota's current SUV lineup (more glass = higher cost), TSS 3.0 requires mandatory static calibration after replacement, and Capstone/Platinum trims with HUD require specialty glass with optical coatings. All three together push the total to $750–$1,500. Insurance is strongly recommended.
Will my insurance cover Toyota Sequoia windshield replacement?
Yes — comprehensive auto insurance covers windshield replacement including ADAS calibration. For a 2023+ Sequoia where the total reaches $750–$1,500, most policyholders with comprehensive coverage owe little or nothing out of pocket. We handle the entire claim with GEICO, State Farm, Progressive, Allstate, Farmers, USAA, and all major carriers.
Can I drive with a cracked windshield in California?
A crack in the driver's primary line of sight is illegal and unsafe in California. Temperature swings in LA cause cracks to spread fast — a small chip can become a full replacement job within days. On a 2023+ Sequoia with TSS 3.0, a spreading crack near the camera area can trigger ADAS warnings. Call us for a same-day mobile assessment anywhere in Los Angeles.
