Toyota Tundra Windshield Replacement — Common Questions Answered

The most important things to know before you call, regardless of your Tundra's year or trim.

How much does it cost?
$260–$500 for 2007–2021 Tundras without ADAS. $680–$1,450 for 2022–2025 models with Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5, including mandatory calibration.
Does my Tundra need ADAS calibration?
Only if your Tundra is 2022 or newer. Every 3rd gen Tundra (2022–2025) has TSS 2.5 standard on all trims. The 2nd gen (2007–2021) — including the 2021 model — has zero ADAS and never requires calibration.
Does the 2021 Tundra have Toyota Safety Sense?
No — this is the #1 misconception on the Tundra. The 2021 model is the final year of the 14-year-old 2nd gen platform. TSS was never added. The 2022 was a complete redesign with TSS 2.5 standard.
Does cab style matter for the windshield?
On the 2nd gen (2007–2021), yes — Regular Cab, Double Cab, and CrewMax have different windshield profiles. On the 3rd gen (2022+), all configurations use the same windshield. We confirm by VIN.
Does the i-FORCE MAX hybrid need different glass?
No. The 3rd gen Tundra hybrid uses the same windshield as the standard twin-turbo V6. The drivetrain does not change the glass part number. We confirm by VIN.
Will insurance cover it?
Yes — comprehensive coverage covers glass and calibration. We handle the full claim. Most 2022+ Tundra owners with comprehensive coverage pay nothing out of pocket.
How long does it take?
60–90 min glass-only (2007–2021). 2.5–4 hours with ADAS calibration (2022+). Drive-away safe in 60 min with fast-cure urethane adhesive.
Can you come to my home or office?
Yes — free mobile service throughout Los Angeles. No driving a cracked windshield across town.

Toyota Tundra Windshield by Generation — What Your Year Needs

Your model year determines everything — glass type, cab-style profile, whether calibration is required, and your total cost. The Tundra's jump from zero ADAS to full TSS 2.5 in a single year (2021→2022) makes year identification critical.

🚨
Critical Year Warning — 2021 vs. 2022 Tundra: The Tundra went from ZERO ADAS to full Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5 in a single model year jump. The 2021 Tundra has no forward camera, no TSS, and no calibration requirement whatsoever — it is the final year of a 14-year-old platform. The 2022 Tundra is a complete ground-up redesign with TSS 2.5 standard on every single trim. Shops that assume "all modern trucks have ADAS" will overcharge 2021 owners for calibration they don't need. Conversely, any shop that skips calibration on a 2022+ Tundra is leaving safety systems uncalibrated. The year matters enormously on the Tundra.

2022–2025 · 3rd Gen
ℹ️
2nd Gen (2007–2021): This generation ran for 14 years without a major redesign and never received Toyota Safety Sense. Not even the final 2021 models. No forward camera, no ADAS, no calibration needed — ever. Available in three cab styles (Regular Cab, Double Cab, CrewMax), each with a distinct windshield profile. Standard laminated glass on all trims. The most straightforward full-size truck replacement we do.
FeatureDetails
Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS)Not Available — No TSS on any 2nd gen Tundra, including the 2021 model year
ADAS Calibration Required? No — No forward camera exists on this generation
Glass TypeStandard laminated windshield across all trims (SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, 1794 Edition)
Cab Styles & WindshieldRegular Cab, Double Cab, and CrewMax — different windshield profiles and part numbers for each. Always confirm by VIN
Acoustic GlassNot available on 2nd gen Tundra — all trims use standard laminated
Rain-Sensing WipersNot available on this generation
Heads-Up Display (HUD)Not available on this generation
Typical Cost$260 – $500 total (glass + labor + moldings)
Installation Time60–90 minutes · Drive-away in 60 min
Our Glass RecommendationQuality aftermarket (Pilkington or Fuyao) — OEM not required, excellent results with OEE glass
⚠️
Cab style matters on the 2nd gen: The Regular Cab, Double Cab, and CrewMax Tundra have different windshield dimensions and profiles. Ordering the wrong glass for the wrong cab configuration is a common mistake at high-volume shops. We always verify cab style by VIN — never by guessing from a photo.
⚠️
3rd Gen (2022–2025): Complete ground-up redesign on the TNGA-F platform. Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5 is standard on every trim from launch — SR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, 1794 Edition, Capstone. This is the largest windshield in Toyota's truck lineup. Static calibration is required after every windshield replacement. The i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain uses the same glass. Panoramic roof option on some trims does not affect the windshield.
FeatureDetails
Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS)TSS 2.5 Standard on ALL Trims — every 2022–2025 Tundra has a camera-equipped windshield
Calibration Required?Yes — camera bracket mounts behind windshield and must be recalibrated after glass removal
Calibration TypeStatic — vehicle stationary, manufacturer-spec targets placed at precise distances. 1–2 hours
Safety Features AffectedPre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Road Sign Assist
Glass TypeLargest windshield in Toyota's truck lineup — acoustic laminated on all trims
All Trims — Same GlassSR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, 1794 Edition, Capstone — all use the same windshield part
i-FORCE MAX HybridSame windshield as standard i-FORCE — drivetrain does not affect glass part number
Panoramic RoofSeparate glass panel — does not affect windshield replacement or calibration
Cost — With ADAS Calibration$680 – $1,450 total · Insurance often covers this fully
Installation Time60–90 min glass only · 2.5–4 hours with calibration
⚠️
3rd gen size factor: The 3rd gen Tundra has the largest windshield in Toyota's truck lineup. The camera mounting area is high on the glass and requires precise alignment during installation. Shops unfamiliar with the TNGA-F platform sometimes position the glass slightly off-center, causing calibration failure on the first attempt. We use manufacturer-spec positioning guides on every 3rd gen Tundra installation.
🔍
Quick check: Look for a small black camera housing near the top center of your windshield, behind the rearview mirror. If you see one, you have a 2022+ Tundra with TSS 2.5 and calibration is required. If there's nothing there, you have a 2007–2021 model — glass only, no calibration. Share your VIN when you call and we'll confirm the exact part, glass spec, and total price immediately.

Glass Options Explained

Toyota Tundra Windshield Glass — OEM, OEE & Aftermarket

The right glass depends on your year and generation. Especially important on the oversized 3rd gen Tundra windshield.

💡
Tundra-specific note: The 3rd gen Tundra (2022+) has the largest windshield in Toyota's truck lineup. Generic glass on a 2022+ ADAS Tundra carries a higher risk of calibration failure due to inconsistent glass thickness near the camera mount area. On the 2nd gen (2007–2021), quality aftermarket glass works perfectly — no ADAS concerns at all.

2007–2021 Tundra owners: None of the above applies to your truck. The 2nd gen Tundra has no forward camera, no ADAS features, and no calibration requirement. Your windshield replacement is glass-only — straightforward, fast, and significantly less expensive.

Our Honest Take on Tundra Calibration

Toyota's manufacturer documentation requires calibration any time the windshield is removed on a TSS-equipped Tundra (2022+). That's the official position — and we always make customers aware of it.

In practice, we do perform non-calibrated replacements when customers request it. In the vast majority of cases the system continues to function normally — the camera re-mounts to the same bracket in the same position. We've seen this consistently across many Tundra jobs.

Our recommendation: If you're using insurance, calibrate — the cost is covered and there's no reason not to. If you're paying out of pocket and your TSS was working perfectly before, a non-calibrated replacement is a reasonable choice. If warning lights appear after the job, bring it back and we'll calibrate at cost.

For 2007–2021 Tundras: There is nothing to calibrate. If any shop tells you your 2021 or older Tundra needs ADAS calibration, find a different shop.

Repair or Replace?

Toyota Tundra Windshield Repair vs. Replacement — Which Do You Need?

Full replacement is almost always the better call on a full-size truck. Here's when repair is technically possible — and why we lean toward replacement even then.

✓ Full Replacement — Always Our Recommendation

  • New glass, clean seal, zero compromise
  • Backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty
  • New moldings and clips included every time
  • Required for any crack over 6 inches
  • Required for damage in driver's line of sight
  • The only safe option for ADAS Tundras (2022+)

From $260 · Same-day mobile available throughout LA

△ Repair — Technically Possible, But...

  • Chip must be smaller than a quarter
  • Not in driver's direct line of sight
  • Not within 3 inches of windshield edge
  • No spreading cracks, single impact only
  • No warranty — resin can fail or crack can return
  • Not recommended on any ADAS Tundra (2022+)

$95–$150 · We'll always tell you if replacement makes more sense

Why Chip Repair Is Riskier on the 2022+ Tundra

On a 2022+ Tundra with Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5, the forward camera reads through the windshield glass. Even a chip that appears far from the camera field of view can cause calibration issues after resin injection — resin changes the optical properties of the glass in that zone, and TSS can fail calibration or generate intermittent warnings as a result.

If the chip is within 8 inches of the camera mount area (top center of the glass), we will almost always recommend replacement over repair on a 2022+ Tundra. The math is straightforward: a repair costs $95–$150 with no warranty. A full replacement with calibration through insurance typically costs nothing. We'll give you an honest assessment either way.

FAQ

Toyota Tundra Windshield Replacement FAQ

Common questions from Toyota Tundra owners across all years and trims.

How much does a Toyota Tundra windshield replacement cost in Los Angeles?
2nd gen Tundras (2007–2021) without ADAS: $260–$500 all-in. Any 2022 or newer 3rd gen Tundra with Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5 runs $680–$1,450 including mandatory calibration. Call (626) 689-7975 with your year and trim for an exact price in under a minute.
Does my Toyota Tundra need ADAS calibration after windshield replacement?
Only if your Tundra is 2022 or newer. Every 3rd gen Tundra (2022–2025) has Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5 standard on all trims and requires static calibration after windshield replacement. The 2nd gen Tundra (2007–2021) has no forward camera and never requires calibration — including the 2021 model year.
Does the 2021 Toyota Tundra have Toyota Safety Sense?
No. This is the most common misconception about the Tundra. The 2021 model is the final year of the 2nd generation, which ran for 14 years (2007–2021) without a major redesign. Toyota Safety Sense was never added to any 2nd gen Tundra. The 2022 model was a complete ground-up redesign on the TNGA-F platform with TSS 2.5 standard on every trim.
Does the cab style affect my Tundra's windshield?
On the 2nd gen Tundra (2007–2021), yes — the Regular Cab, Double Cab, and CrewMax have different windshield profiles and distinct part numbers. Ordering the wrong glass for the wrong cab is a common mistake. On the 3rd gen (2022+), all configurations share the same windshield. We always verify by VIN.
Does the Tundra i-FORCE MAX hybrid need different glass?
No. The 3rd gen Tundra i-FORCE MAX twin-turbo hybrid uses the same windshield as the standard i-FORCE twin-turbo V6. The drivetrain doesn't affect the glass part number. We confirm everything by VIN.
Does the panoramic roof affect windshield replacement?
No. The optional panoramic roof on the 3rd gen Tundra is a completely separate glass panel. It does not affect the windshield part number, replacement procedure, or TSS calibration. The windshield job is identical whether your Tundra has the panoramic roof or not.
Will my insurance cover Toyota Tundra windshield replacement?
Yes — comprehensive auto insurance covers windshield replacement including ADAS calibration. For a 2022+ Tundra where the total reaches $680–$1,450, most policyholders with comprehensive coverage owe little or nothing out of pocket. We handle the entire claim with GEICO, State Farm, Progressive, Allstate, Farmers, USAA, and all major carriers.
Can I drive with a cracked windshield in California?
A crack in the driver's primary line of sight is illegal and unsafe in California. Temperature swings in LA cause cracks to spread fast — a small chip can become a full replacement job within days. On a 2022+ Tundra with TSS, a spreading crack near the camera area can trigger ADAS warnings. Call us for a same-day mobile assessment anywhere in Los Angeles.
