Volvo's manufacturer documentation requires calibration any time the windshield is removed on a Pilot Assist-equipped XC90. That's the official position — and we always make customers aware of it.
In practice, we do perform non-calibrated replacements. In the vast majority of cases the system continues to function normally — the camera re-mounts to the same bracket in the same position. We've seen this consistently across many XC90 jobs.
Our recommendation: If you're using insurance, calibrate — the cost is covered and there's no reason not to. If you're paying out of pocket and your Pilot Assist was working perfectly before, a non-calibrated replacement is a reasonable choice. If warning lights appear after the job, bring it back and we'll calibrate at cost.
