GM Safety Package Calibration After Windshield Replacement

The GM Safety Package is Chevrolet's suite of camera-based driver-assist systems. When the windshield is replaced, the camera mounted behind it may shift — and calibration ensures every safety feature works correctly.

What the GM Safety Package Includes
The GM Safety Package uses a windshield-mounted camera behind the rearview mirror. It powers Front Pedestrian Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam automatic high beams. These features are standard on most Chevy models from 2018–2021 onward, depending on model.

What Happens When We Replace the Glass
The camera bracket is removed with the old windshield and re-mounted to the new one. Even a fraction of a degree of shift in camera angle throws off the system's reference points. Calibration re-establishes those points using manufacturer-spec targets — our method is static only, the most precise approach available.

Super Cruise — Not Affected by Windshield Replacement
Super Cruise, available on premium trims like the Silverado High Country, uses a driver-facing infrared camera on the steering column, LiDAR map data, and GPS — not the windshield-mounted camera. Super Cruise does not require recalibration after windshield replacement. The windshield camera handles the standard safety features only.
