Chevrolet Trax Windshield Replacement — Common Questions Answered

The most important things to know before you call, regardless of your Trax's year or trim.

How much does it cost?
$200–$380 for 1st gen Trax models (2015–2022) without ADAS. $540–$1,100 for the redesigned 2024–2025 Trax with GM Safety Package, including mandatory calibration.
Does my Trax need ADAS calibration?
Only if you have the 2024 or 2025 Trax. The completely redesigned 2nd gen has GM Safety Package standard on all trims. The 1st gen Trax (2015–2022) has no forward-facing camera and needs no calibration.
Is the 2024 Trax the same vehicle as the old Trax?
No — they are completely different vehicles. Different platform, different size, different glass. The 2024+ Trax is a ground-up redesign that shares only the name with the 2015–2022 model. Always verify by VIN.
Was there a 2023 Trax?
No. The 1st gen Trax ended after 2022, and the redesigned 2nd gen launched as a 2024 model. There was no 2023 model year — important because the two generations share no glass parts.
Will insurance cover it?
Yes — comprehensive coverage covers glass and calibration. We handle the full claim. Most 2024+ Trax owners with comprehensive coverage pay nothing out of pocket.
Can you come to my home or office?
Yes — free mobile service throughout Los Angeles. No driving a cracked windshield across town.
How long does it take?
60–90 min glass-only on the 1st gen. 2.5–4 hours with ADAS calibration on the 2024+. Drive-away safe in 60 min with fast-cure urethane adhesive.
What glass brands do you use?
Pilkington, Fuyao (Ohio plant), AGC, and Vitro/PGW — all ADAS-compatible for the 2024+ Trax. XYG/Benson used rarely, on non-ADAS 1st gen models only.

Chevrolet Trax Windshield by Generation — What Your Year Needs

Your year determines your glass type, whether calibration is required, and your total cost. Select your generation below.

⚠️
Critical: The 2024+ Trax is a COMPLETELY different vehicle from the 2015–2022 Trax. Different platform, different size, different glass. They share only the name. The 1st gen was a subcompact SUV based on GM's Gamma II platform. The 2nd gen is a larger vehicle built on GM's VSS-F platform. There is no interchangeability between the two — glass, brackets, moldings, and hardware are all different. There was no 2023 Trax model year. Always verify by VIN.

2024–2025 · 2nd Gen
ℹ️
1st Gen (2015–2022): No ADAS, no forward camera. Standard laminated windshield on a subcompact SUV. The most straightforward Trax replacement — glass only, no calibration, quality aftermarket works perfectly. No model year 2023 exists — the 1st gen ended after 2022.

⚠️
2nd Gen (2024–2025): Complete redesign on a new platform — this is a completely different vehicle from the 1st gen Trax. GM Safety Package is standard on ALL trims — LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, Activ. Calibration is required after every windshield replacement on any 2024+ Trax. Different glass, different brackets, different hardware from the 1st gen.

Quick check: If your Trax is a 2024 or 2025 model, you have a windshield-mounted camera behind the rearview mirror and calibration is required. If it's a 2015–2022, there is no camera — glass only. Share your VIN when you call and we'll confirm the exact part number and price immediately.

Our Honest Take on Trax Calibration

GM's documentation requires calibration any time the windshield is removed on a Safety Package-equipped Trax. That's the official position and we always inform customers of it.

In practice, most non-calibrated replacements result in a normally functioning system. The camera re-mounts to the same bracket in the same position. We've seen this consistently across GM vehicles with this system.

Our recommendation: If you're using insurance, calibrate — cost is covered and there's no reason not to. If you're paying out of pocket, a non-calibrated replacement is a reasonable choice if the safety systems were working perfectly before. If warning lights appear after the job, bring it back and we'll calibrate at cost.

We perform static calibration in-house — never subcontracted. When we calibrate, we always provide a printed completion report. If any warning lights return after our service, we redo the calibration at no charge.

Repair or Replace?

Chevrolet Trax Windshield Repair vs. Replacement — Which Do You Need?

Full replacement is almost always the better call. Here's when repair is technically possible — and why we lean toward replacement.

✓ Full Replacement — Always Our Recommendation

  • New glass, clean seal, zero compromise
  • Backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty
  • New moldings and clips included every time
  • Required for any crack over 6 inches
  • Required for damage in driver's line of sight
  • The only safe option for 2024+ ADAS Trax models

From $200 · Same-day mobile available throughout LA

△ Repair — Technically Possible, But...

  • Chip must be smaller than a quarter
  • Not in driver's direct line of sight
  • Not within 3 inches of windshield edge
  • No spreading cracks, single impact only
  • No warranty — resin can fail or crack can return
  • Not recommended on any 2024+ ADAS Trax

$95–$150 · We'll always tell you if replacement makes more sense

On 2024+ Trax Models, Repair Near the Camera Zone Is Especially Risky

On a 2nd gen Trax with GM Safety Package, injected resin changes the optical properties of the glass in the chip area. If the chip is anywhere within 8 inches of the camera mount (top center), resin fill can cause calibration failure or intermittent ADAS warnings — even if the chip appears "filled."

The math favors replacement: A chip repair runs $95–$150 with no warranty. A full replacement with calibration through insurance typically costs you nothing. We'll give you an honest assessment and never push you toward the more expensive option unless it's genuinely the right call.

FAQ

Chevrolet Trax Windshield Replacement FAQ

Common questions from Chevrolet Trax owners across all years and trims.

How much does a Chevrolet Trax windshield replacement cost in Los Angeles?
1st gen Trax (2015–2022) without ADAS: $200–$380 all-in. Any 2024 or 2025 Trax with GM Safety Package runs $540–$1,100 including mandatory calibration. Call (626) 689-7975 with your year and trim for an exact price in under a minute.
Does my Chevrolet Trax need ADAS calibration after windshield replacement?
Only if your Trax is a 2024 or 2025 model. The completely redesigned 2nd gen Trax has GM Safety Package standard on every trim, requiring static calibration after windshield replacement. The 1st gen Trax (2015–2022) has no forward-facing camera and needs no calibration.
Is the 2024 Trax the same vehicle as the 2015–2022 Trax?
No — they are completely different vehicles that share only the name. The 1st gen Trax was a subcompact SUV on GM's Gamma II platform. The 2nd gen Trax is a larger vehicle built on GM's VSS-F platform with a completely different body, different glass dimensions, and standard ADAS. There is zero parts interchangeability between them. There was no 2023 model year.
What glass brands do you use for the Chevrolet Trax?
We use Pilkington, Fuyao (Ohio plant), AGC, and Vitro/PGW — all ADAS-compatible for the 2024+ Trax. XYG/Benson is used only on non-ADAS 1st gen models as a last resort and always disclosed upfront. We never install generic glass on ADAS-equipped vehicles.
Will insurance cover my Chevrolet Trax windshield replacement?
Yes — comprehensive auto insurance covers windshield replacement including ADAS calibration. For a 2024+ Trax where the total reaches $540–$1,100, most policyholders with comprehensive coverage owe little or nothing. We handle the entire claim process with GEICO, State Farm, Progressive, Allstate, Farmers, USAA, and all major carriers.
Was there a 2023 Chevrolet Trax?
No. The 1st generation Trax ended production after the 2022 model year, and the completely redesigned 2nd generation launched as a 2024 model. There is no 2023 Trax. This is important because the two generations use entirely different glass, brackets, and hardware.
Can I drive with a cracked Trax windshield in California?
A crack in the driver's primary line of sight is illegal and unsafe in California. Temperature fluctuations in LA — especially in summer — cause cracks to spread rapidly. On a 2024+ ADAS Trax, a spreading crack that reaches the camera zone can also cause GM Safety Package system warnings. Call us for a same-day mobile assessment anywhere in Los Angeles.
How long does a Chevrolet Trax windshield replacement take?
60–90 minutes for glass-only on the 1st gen Trax (2015–2022). The 2024+ Trax with ADAS calibration takes 2.5–4 hours total. Drive-away safe in 60 minutes with fast-cure urethane adhesive. We perform static calibration in-house — never subcontracted.
