GM's documentation requires calibration any time the windshield is removed on a Safety Package-equipped Trax. That's the official position and we always inform customers of it.
In practice, most non-calibrated replacements result in a normally functioning system. The camera re-mounts to the same bracket in the same position. We've seen this consistently across GM vehicles with this system.
Our recommendation: If you're using insurance, calibrate — cost is covered and there's no reason not to. If you're paying out of pocket, a non-calibrated replacement is a reasonable choice if the safety systems were working perfectly before. If warning lights appear after the job, bring it back and we'll calibrate at cost.
📋 Using Insurance? Start Your Claim →Full replacement is almost always the better call. Here's when repair is technically possible — and why we lean toward replacement.
From $200 · Same-day mobile available throughout LA
$95–$150 · We'll always tell you if replacement makes more sense
On a 2nd gen Trax with GM Safety Package, injected resin changes the optical properties of the glass in the chip area. If the chip is anywhere within 8 inches of the camera mount (top center), resin fill can cause calibration failure or intermittent ADAS warnings — even if the chip appears "filled."
The math favors replacement: A chip repair runs $95–$150 with no warranty. A full replacement with calibration through insurance typically costs you nothing. We'll give you an honest assessment and never push you toward the more expensive option unless it's genuinely the right call.
Your VIN confirms glass type, trim, ADAS equipment, and generation in under a minute.
The 17-character VIN on your dashboard (driver's side, visible through the windshield) or door jamb tells us everything — glass spec, GM Safety Package equipment, and generation. One number, one call, done. This is especially important for the Trax because the 1st and 2nd generation use completely different glass.
