Tesla's Autopilot / Full Self-Driving (FSD) system relies on cameras mounted behind the windshield. When the windshield is replaced, calibration is required to restore full functionality of every safety and autonomous driving feature.

Unlike other manufacturers that use a single forward-facing camera, Tesla uses a tri-camera cluster mounted behind the windshield on most models — a wide-angle camera, a main camera, and a narrow (telephoto) camera. This cluster powers Autopilot, Full Self-Driving, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping, and Traffic-Aware Cruise Control. The windshield must be optically precise in the camera zone for all three cameras to function correctly.

How Tesla Calibration Works
Tesla's calibration process is unique. After windshield replacement, we perform a static pre-alignment to verify the camera bracket is correctly positioned. The vehicle then initiates its own driving calibration through Tesla's onboard software — the car needs to be driven for a period while it recalibrates the cameras. We perform the static alignment verification, and then the vehicle completes its own driving calibration automatically.

Tesla-Specific Glass Requirements
Tesla uses acoustic laminated glass on all models. The Model X has the most distinctive windshield of any production vehicle — it extends up and over the driver in a single panoramic piece, making it one of the most expensive windshield replacements on any vehicle. The Model 3 and Model Y windshields are more conventional in shape but still require acoustic laminated glass with precise optical quality in the camera zone.

There is no non-ADAS Tesla. Every Tesla ever sold comes with Autopilot hardware — cameras and sensors are standard on every model, every trim, every year (2014+ for Model S, all years for Model 3, Y, and X).
